Agricultural inputs rose 32.6% between January and June

The war between Russia and Ukraine has put the prices of agricultural inputs such as fertilizers in the eye of the hurricane in recent months in Colombia, given that their increase has made it difficult tohe crops of the different agricultural sectors of the country.

According to the Price Index of Agricultural Inputs of the Agricultural Rural Planning Unit (UPRA), the value of fertilizers and pesticides grew on average in the month of June 2022 by 0.65% compared to the previous month, a figure that was lower than that observed in the same month of 2021, which was estimated at 2.58%.

Faced with the average variation of the monthly prices of the basket of supplies, Upra estimated that for January 2022, the percentage presented was 5.5%, however, for the following month, a reduction in the variation was evidenced, reaching 3.4%. For March, the price of these inputs continued to decline with 2%, while for April, the rebound tripled the previous months, reaching a change of 11.7. Regarding May, the percentage presented was positioned at 6.1% and for June, that only had a movement of 0.6%.

Now, according to the report, the accumulated variation for the íTotal price index so far in 2022 was 32.6%while for the months of January to June 2021 it was 17.30%.

For the period between July 2021 and June 2022, the accumulated variation was 103.3%, exceeding the same period between 2020 and 2021where a result of 14.5% was evidenced.

Fertilizer price

The percentage change in fertilizer prices for the first half of this year presented an increase of 0.34% for the complete groupor, a figure that was considered lower than that presented in the same period of the previous year, where it reached 3.48%.
Regarding the subgroup of simple fertilizers, this presents a negative monthly variation in its prices of -0.19%, however, this figure was lower than the result of 2021 whose value was 3.93%.

Similarly, for compound fertilizers, the monthly variation was positive, with an increase of 0.84%, lower than that presented in June 2021, which was 3.12%.

pesticide prices

The percentage variation for June of the item, with respect to the previous monthpresents an increase of 1.78% for the total of the group, higher than that observed during the same period of the previous year, which was 0.67%.

Faced with the variations of the subgroups in the prices of June, with respect to the previous month, positive results were presented since for herbicides, the value percentage presented was 2.23%, the same as 0.61% in fungicides and 1.05% in insecticides, while for the same period of 2021 the figures correspond to 1.02%, 0.00% and 0.50% respectively. According to Upra, so far in 2022 the variation has been 22.14% for the total group, 31.79% in herbicides, 7.15% in fungicides and 8.94% in insecticides.
