Within the framework of the visit of the Bolivian president, Luis Arce, to the country, Alberto Fernández and his counterpart signed an agreement that guarantees the supply of 14 million cubic meters of gas daily.
This provision will be made to supply the demand for gas in the winter. In addition, both governments signed a commitment that allows expanding the volumes of the hydrocarbon If necessary.
This means that if Bolivia increases its production, Argentina would have priority to use said reserves and would import 14 to 18 million cubic meters of gas daily.
Nevertheless, for now the same volumes will be imported from gas than last year, at two staggered prices. The first 10 million m3/d will be paid between US$8 and US$9 per million BTU.
For their part, the missing 4 million m3/d will have a higher value, which is estimated to be around US$18 per million BTU; Despite this, the country would pay less than if it imported LNG.
On average the country will save US$9,000 per day, if you take into account that LNG is around US$35, after the escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which triggered international prices.
What the Government said about the new gas agreement with Bolivia
After guaranteeing a large part of the supply of the hydrocarbon in the country for the winter season, the Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán, said that a good agreement was reached with Bolivia.
“A positive agreement was achieved that provides predictability and greater peace of mind in a context of international energy crisis.” For his part, President Alberto Fernández thanked the effort made by Bolivia.
“We celebrate having this safe gas, given that in recent years Bolivia has had a decline in its production, therefore we hope that the increase can arrive as soon as possible.”
