Agreement will allow purchase of 1 million doses of vaccine for 2022

The Ministry of Health and pharmaceutical company Pfizer signed this Monday (29) a contract for the purchase of 100 million doses of the vaccine against covid-19 for application in 2022. The expectation, according to the folder, is that the immunizing agents start to be delivered in the first three months of the year.

The contract also provides for the acquisition of over 50 million immunizers if necessary. Doses must be delivered on a quarterly basis, with 20 million by March; 25 million by June.; 35 million until September and 19.9 million in the last quarter.

“The contract also contemplates any change in the composition of doses according to the emergence of new variants of covid-19, if necessary”, highlighted the ministry, through a note.

In 2021, the federal government and Pfizer signed agreements to purchase 200 million doses. Deliveries by must be completed by December this year. Of this total, more than 139 million, according to the folder, have already been distributed to the states and the Federal District.

According to the ministry, the expectation is to make available around 354 million doses of vaccines against covid-19 throughout 2022. In addition to the 100 million doses from Pfizer, the amount includes 120 million doses of AstraZeneca, produced by Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), of which 60 million with national IFA; and 134 million doses of contracts signed in 2021 and which will remain on balance for the next year.

According to Ministry data, in 2021 the federal government acquired more than 550 million doses of vaccines against covid-19, of which 372 million were delivered to the states and the Federal District and more than 300 million were applied.

The numbers show that 90% of the target audience was vaccinated with the first dose and that 76% are fully vaccinated. According to the ministry, in November, there was a 92% drop in the moving average of deaths per covid-19, compared to the peak of the pandemic. The moving average of cases also continues to fall, recording 87.6% fewer cases since the peak.

“The current scenario, of cases and deaths in the country, is the lowest recorded since the beginning of the pandemic”, highlighted the ministry.

In November, the folder extended the application of so-called booster doses to the entire population over 18 years of age who have already completed the vaccination cycle for at least five months.
