This Friday, November 18, the Minister of Education, Alejandro Gaviria, met with 122 rectors from different private universities in the country. Finally, after several hours of meeting, they reached an ‘almost majority’ consensus regarding the increase in enrollment.

The conclusion is that this increase should not exceed the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which according to the Dane for the month of October it had an annual variation of 12.2 percent.
However, Minister Gaviria said that some universities, despite agreeing with the measure, warned that the final decision depended on the Superior Council “so they cannot announce a reduction to the prices already established so far“.
Among these institutions is the Javeriana University and the Andes, where there has been a great discomfort on the part of the student community, which has staged demonstrations during the week.

In this sense, in the event that a reduction in the current cost of enrollment does not materialize –whose rise in the case of La Javeriana was 13.9 percent and in that of the Andes 12.8 percent (above the value of the CPI)-, you must justify these increases before the Ministry of Education with a maximum term of December 15.
Gaviria also assured that the universities will assume an amount of 200 billion pesos for 5 years to finance the interest rates of the credits requested in Icetex.
