The candidate for the Presidency, Santiago Peña, held a meeting with rectors and representatives of private universities at the premises of the María Auxiliadora University – UMAX of Mariano Roque Alonso.
The rectors and representatives of private universities exposed the current problems of the management of Higher Education, mainly those derived from the management of CONES, such as the excessive delay in the procedures for licensing undergraduate courses and postgraduate programs, despite having met the requirements of current regulations.
They indicated that this notably affects the management of Private Universities and the access of young people to a professional training of their choice. In this sense, They agreed that this delay limits the options of academic offers available to young people, who prefer to pursue their studies in the geographical area of their environment.
The Rectors They requested that the next government improve the conditions of legal certainty and objective regulation of Higher Education, as they are emerging needs for private universities to continue generating opportunities for access to education, health and work.

Besides, reported on the project for the construction of university hospitals, through the investment of associated private universities and that it will offer free medical assistance to patients and their families.
For his part, Santi Peña mentioned that, in case he wins the elections, his Government will have as a priority the strengthening of Higher Education, the improvement of the management of the competent official bodies such as CONES, ANEAES, MEC, CONACYT, among others. It also assumed the commitment to expand access to scholarship programs for graduates and teachers from universities and other educational institutions and to promote the necessary investment for the development of research projects promoted by universities.
Pena said that values and recognizes the great contribution to the development of the country from foreign students who entrust their professional training to private universities, including Brazilians studying Medicine.
