Sancti Spíritus is one of the province with the greatest affectation in teaching coverage within the island.
Lima, Peru –sancti Spíritus began the current school year in more than 460 educational centers of different teachings, where some 63,200 students who face the same problem will be formed: the lack of teachers.
A periodic officer report Escambray He admits that there are few challenges in the midst of the acute economic and financial crisis that Cuba crosses. Among them, the teacher deficit is a challenge, he says, “already overwhelming and in crescendo “.
Andrei Armas Bravo, General Director of Education at Sancti Spíritus, highlights that his province has one of the greatest effects on teaching coverage inside the island.
“We start the course with 68.12% coverage. That is 6.14 percentage points less, compared to the same stage of the previous year. We have today approved a template of 6,767 teaching places. We cover with fixed personnel 4.610. And we have 1,995 needs, which represent 254 more than in the same stage of the previous course,” says the manager.
The most difficult situation is faced by the pre -university teachings, basic and technical and professional secondary schools. But, there are also complex difficulties in primary.
“Our teachers go to other sectors, including non -state, that have a better remuneration, and that is one of the main causes for which we have casualties today,” adds Armas Bravo.
The leader explained that they try Pale the foul of teachers from several strategies, for example, with 1,090 contracts for hours of people (many from the education sector itself) who are working in other organizations and decide to hire.
Another of the plans is to overexploot the existing teachers. According to official figures, there are already 558 professors with increases in teaching and 523 load with increased teaching-child relationship, who is theory “pays” this overload.
In addition, 48 management councils are assuming teaching in schools, as well as 17 third and fourth -year students who are in the practice stage.
The authorities of the Cuban regime recognize that these some of these options, although “are not ideals,” try to solve the problem.
“All the results of learning, both of the entry and promotion tests, are related to this coverage situation and, within it, with the suitability because we can say that we cover the absences with a group of alternatives, but not all are suitable to give class or to meet individual differences,” says the leader.
