THE Most Admired Black Journalists in the Brazilian Press Award announced this Tuesday (24) the 2024 winners. The journalists of Brazilian Communication Company (EBC) Beatriz Arcoverde (National Radio Agency) and Luciana Barreto (TV Brazil) were among the Top 50 Most Admired Journalists of the Year.
THE Brazil Agency was elected among the Most Admired in the General Vehicle category, together with TV Cultura, G1, TV Globo and Globo News.
“The election of the Brazil Agency and EBC journalists at the +Admirados Jornalistas Negros e Negras da Imprensa Brasileira Award is confirmation of the role of the company and its professionals in combating racism and in the fight to achieve equality in the country”, highlights the president of EBC, Jean Lima.
The Most Admired Black Journalists in the Brazilian Press Award is an election promoted by Jornalistas&Cia in partnership with 1 Papo Reto, Portal Neo Mondo and Rede Jornalistas Pretos, which honors journalism professionals and publications.
The winners of each category will be announced at the awards ceremony on November 11th at Itaú Cultural in São Paulo.
Affirmative agenda
Journalist Beatriz Arcoverde celebrates the award by recalling the importance of public communication investing in diversity and innovation. Editor of National Radio Agencyshe has used her experience in radio journalism and digital journalism to produce and edit podcasts. Among the productions edited by her is the podcast Black Press in Brazil.
“What drives us is to take this content to other radio stations and listeners throughout Brazil, who without National Radio Agency they would not have access to fundamental information for the valorization of the memory and rights of the black population”, highlights Beatriz.
For Luciana Barreto, it is an honor to be part of the list of Top 50 Most Admired Journalists of the Year for the second year in a row. This year, the presenter of Brazil Afternoon Reporterfrom TV Brasil, was also a finalist in Academic Jabuti Award with the book “Hate Speeches against Blacks on Social Media”.
“Every year, more and more black professionals in communications are in leadership positions, gaining visibility and recognition. This is the result of ancestral work. This is a driving force for a fairer, more democratic, more inclusive Brazil,” argues Luciana.
