Against the dismissal of 90 workers and the closure of Calcar Carmelo

Against the dismissal of 90 workers and the closure of Calcar Carmelo

The PIT-CNT rejected as “inadmissible” the proposal of the CALCAR company that offers as a “solution” to dismiss 90 workers, lower wages and the closure of the Carmelo plant
The PIT-CNT expresses its full support and solidarity with the resolution issued by the extraordinary plenary of the Federation of Workers of the Dairy Industry (FTIL) and the ALTRAC union, in relation to the inadmissible proposal presented by the company CALCAR.

We categorically reject CALCAR’s proposals that include the dismissal of 90 workers, the total closure of the Carmelo plant, significant wage cuts and downward reclassifications. We believe that these measures are unacceptable and do not represent a fair solution for workers who have been paying the cost of corporate mismanagement for a long time.

It cannot be admitted that companies use subsidies to generate these restructurings, where with public funds they intend to pay millions in layoffs, instead of looking for proposals that develop the industry from a perspective of national production and job quality.

We declare ourselves on permanent alert together with the Federation of Dairy Industry Workers, in defense of real industrial development and jobs.

Likewise, last day, the extraordinary Plenary of FTIL declared itself on alert and in permanent session due to the situation with the CALCAR company. For the FTIL, it is “criminal” to present a proposal as a supposed “solution” that implies the dismissal of 90 workers, the total closure of the Carmelo Plant, the salary reduction that goes from 20 to 40% of the salary and to apply a recategorization to the low. “We ask ourselves: Is this the ‘help’ that the Government offered for the sector? Or is CALCAR abusing?

Within this framework, the FTIL maintains that it is imperative to seek alternatives for productive viability “and not rely on the obscene vision of technocrats who, from their offices, recommend almost 100 dismissals and criminal wage cuts, outsourcing and have plant closures without the move a hair.”

The FTIL resolution demands “the corresponding negotiation space of an urgent nature (in the tripartite instance next Wednesday, June 14), in which the Government must be categorical in its rejection of a savage proposal such as that of the CALCAR company, in the understanding that if the company’s formula is applied, the impact on the Department of Colonia and on the entire dairy industry would be devastating and its consequences will drag hundreds of families and small businesses into an immediate future of unemployment, closure of enterprises and indebtedness. Is that the price that the company wants us to pay workers, merchants and authorities? We believe it is necessary that the good sense of the authorities prevail and that they will have time to solve this misfortune that is coming, if the company does not rectify its position”.

In addition, he points out that “it is striking that while the CALCAR company intends to lead hundreds of families and, consequently, an entire community, towards a devastating scenario with its unilateral decisions, it could perfectly adopt other paths, such as stopping producing 1,000. 000 liters of milk per month outside the company and avoid -for example- closing CALCAR”.

Other points of the resolution

-Inform that, if the company CALCAR does not modify its proposal in the field of collective bargaining, the FTIL will adopt a National Strike measure in the entire Dairy Industry as soon as the project is presented to the FRIL, and will convene, seriously and urgently, the General Assembly of the FTIL to resolve the measures to be taken (among them possible Work to Regulation, network of assemblies, strikes and mobilizations, etc.

– Express clearly that we are going to defend the jobs of our compañeras and compañeros, as well as their wages and conquered rights.

– Request meetings of the National Dairy Institute (INALE), the Ministers of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries and Labor and Social Security, the Labor, Legislation and Labor, Agrarian and Livestock Affairs commissions of Parliament and the Mayor and Departmental Board from Cologne.

– Highlight the resolution of FTIL: If the project is sent without an agreement with the ALTRAC Union, we will not receive CALCAR milk in any of the Dairy Industries.
