Again, Cusco without train to Machu Picchu, without airport or bus station

Again, Cusco without train to Machu Picchu, without airport or bus station

Due to the strong protests that have taken place in the city of Cusco, where clashes between protesters and the Police have left one dead and at least twenty injured, local authorities have decided to suspend all transportation services.

Thus, since the day before, operations at the Alejandro Velasco Astete airport were cancelled, no flight can leave or land from the Cusco air terminal.

Let us remember that the siege of the protesters to this airport terminal has been constant for two days, the scuffles with the Police take place above all on the 28 de Julio avenue, the main access point to the airport.

Likewise, since the day before, the PeruRail company, the main operator of the Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu route, announced the indefinite cessation of its operations, due to the blockade of the railway at Kilometer 78 and the threat of pickets at different points of the railway.

In this way, the few tourists that remained in the Cusco region are prevented from accessing the world wonder, nor can they leave by air or land, remaining trapped in the Imperial City.

FACT:

Last Thursday, alleged protesters attacked the facilities of the Cusco Bus Terminal, setting fire to the control booths and stoning the waiting and boarding room, service at this site has also been suspended.
