After months of waiting, the President gabriel boric appointed the lawyer Mauricio Hurtado as the new ambassador of Chile in China. The President also appointed ambassadors to Colombia, Costa Rica, Ireland and Vietnam.
Hurtado is a “lawyer from the University of Chile and a graduate of the ‘Andrés Bello’ Diplomatic Academy. He has been Chile’s ambassador to Cuba and chief of staff of the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs. In addition, he has served in the embassies of Indonesia, Brazil , the United States, China and Singapore,” the government said in a statement.

President Boric appointed Maria Ines Ruz Zañartu as the new ambassador in Colombia. She is a journalist from the University of Havana. She has a master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Chile and a diploma in International Economic Relations from the Universidad Mayor, together with the Red Universitaria Iberoamérica Europa.
In turn, she was the ambassador of Chile in El Salvador and concurrent in Belize, a position she held until March 2018. She also developed as an international advisor to the Ministry of Defense and an analyst for the General Directorate of Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The President also appointed Margarita Portuguez Gonzalez as ambassador in Costa Rica. She is a public relations officer and has a law degree. She was an adviser for the Ministry of Transport on strategic policies, dealing with project management and monitoring issues. In addition, she worked as a legal analyst at the Subsecretary of Telecommunications.
In the political realm, she served as President of the Democratic Revolution party from 2021 to 2022.
While, Ricardo Hernandez Menendez will be the new ambassador Ireland. He is a public administrator and political scientist from the University of Chile. He is a graduate of the “Andrés Bello” Diplomatic Academy and has a master’s degree in Economics from the Javeriana University of Colombia, as well as a Senior Management Diploma for Foreign Service Counselors from the University of Chile.
He has worked in the Chilean Embassies in Argentina, Mexico and Peru, as well as in the Mission to the United Nations in New York. Currently, he was serving as Chile’s ambassador to Colombia.
Finally, Sergio Narea Guzman will be the ambassador in Vietnam. He is an architect from the University of Chile. He has a specialist diploma in international relations from the University of Chile, as well as studies in political science at the University of Hamburg and the Diplomatic Academy of Madrid.
Abroad, he has served as Consul in Gothenburg and in the Chilean Embassies in Singapore and Vietnam. At the time of his appointment, he was working as Chargé d’Affaires at the Chilean Embassy in the People’s Republic of China.
