The general secretary of the Single Union of Construction and Related Workers (SUNTRACS), Saúl Mendez, met with the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, and the Minister of Labor, Jackeline Muñoz de Cedeño, in order to discuss the issue of the union’s bank accounts that were closed. During the meeting, they were able to reach specific points.
Méndez said that they will be able to recover the account at the National Bank that was restricted and be able to deposit checks that they have not been able to cash since November.
Regarding the closure of roads and the request for the opening of accounts, Méndez pointed out that “There are real possibilities that the problem will be resolved and we made the decision to mitigate our actions in order to debate and discuss this issue with the new authorities and naturally if there is no reason to be on the roads, we will not be on the roads, and now there are real possibilities that this problem will be resolved.”
Since last November, Suntracs has denounced that its bank accounts had been arbitrarily closed and blamed the government of Laurentino Cortizo for this situation.
