In their first protocol meeting as the board of directors of the Senate, the president and vice president, Juan Antonio Coloma and Francisco Huenchumilla, respectively, met with the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, to discuss Public Safety issues. Both powers defined their legislative priorities and agreed to move forward “with greater dialogue on relevant issues for Chile.”
During the meeting, Coloma and Huenchumilla highlighted the importance of advancing in the strengthening of the so-called “legislative fast track” to dispatch the maximum number of security projects in the shortest possible time. This would allow citizens to feel supported in the fight against delinquency and organized crime.

Senator Coloma explained that, having several projects under study, it is important to move forward with emergencies, since the Executive had incorporated 16 legislative emergencies and some additional ones were raised that they promised to review. Likewise, he stressed the importance of setting precise deadlines so that projects against crime and drug trafficking are “fast and effective.”
At the end of the meeting, Vice President Huenchumilla stressed that the Senate is a space for “great agreements, dialogue and respect”, and ratified the commitment to work for the well-being and security of citizens. In summary, the meeting between the board of directors of the Senate and President Boric sought to advance on security issues and accelerate projects that make it possible to combat delinquency and organized crime in Chile.
