Affirming that “the Executive’s commitment to the environment is not in doubt”, the minister of the General Secretariat of Government (Segegob) Camila Vallejo addressed the summons of the mayor of Viña del Mar Macarena Ripamonti, after the head of the Viña del Mar municipality and militant of the Democratic Revolution (RD) gave the Executive 72 hours to reject the bioremediation technique of the “Sanitation of the Las Salinas Land”, the initiative that has a favorable Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA) since September 4, 2020 but that Due to the opposition of environmental organizations, it has not been able to carry out its execution.
The government will hold an interministerial meeting this Monday, regarding the controversial project on Las Salinas beach. Regarding the meeting in La Moneda, Minister Vallejo said that “we promote and are on the side of dialogue and conversation, and the protection of the environment” and pointed out that “there is a committee of ministers who are determined to resolve these issues but I return to repeat: the commitment of this Government with the environment is not in doubt».

It is worth mentioning that Ripamonti’s remarks were described as friendly fire due to the ultimatum of the Frente Amplio mayor towards the Government. This point was addressed by PPD helmsman Natalia Piergentili, who said – in conversation with Channel 13— that it seems to him that «the mayor has not yet assumed what is called being a government». And, pointing out that in the ruling party there are those “who have not learned to assume the costs of being a government, since being an opposition is much simpler,” he stated: “Allies and friends are not threatened.”
