The 2022 edition of the Supercopa do Brasil, scheduled for February 20, will be played at Arena Pantanal, in Cuiabá, at 16:00 (Brasilia time). The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed this Tuesday (8) the location that will host the clash between Atlético-MG and Flamengo.
Initially, the match would be played in Brasília, but the restriction on the presence of the public at Mané Garrincha, due to the high number of cases of the new coronavirus (covid-19), led CBF to look for another place to host the duel. The choice provoked discussion between alvinegros and rubro-blacks backstage. The mineiros refused to play in a stadium where the cariocas had the most fans, as in the Northeast.
Atlético qualified for the Supercopa for having won the Brazilian Championship and the 2021 Copa do Brasil. By regulation, Flamengo inherited the place in the competition for being runner-up in the Série A. Rubro-Negro got the best in previous editions , in 2020 and 2021, both played in Brasília, respectively against Athletico-PR and Palmeiras.
