After heavy rain and hail, 250,000 properties remain without electricity in SP

Eight hours after a storm hit the metropolitan region of São Paulo, around 250,000 properties remain without electricity. The majority are in the capital, 216 thousand. The municipality of São Caetano do Sul, in ABC, still has almost 18 thousand homes in the dark, 20% of the total, according to data released by the concessionaire Enel. São Caetano was most affected by the storm, with widespread problems in the distribution network, affecting six out of ten users during the day. Civil Defense recorded 50 tree falls and 12 residents were left homeless and sheltered in relatives’ homes. The most affected neighborhoods were Oswaldo Cruz, Barcelona, ​​Cerâmica, Santo Antônio and Jardim São Caetano. In the city center, ten vehicles were hit by the falling roof of a parking lot. There were no injuries.

Hail

The capital recorded winds of up to 78 km/h, with hail precipitation in neighborhoods in the east and west. A stream overflowed in the east zone, the hardest hit region of the city.

In Ferraz de Vasconcelos, an uninhabited house collapsed.

On the north coast, despite a warning issued by the Civil Defense for Ubatuba, there were no records of greater danger, just a few points of flooding on avenues.

The east of São Paulo, the other states in the Southeast, the entire Center-West and the continental portions of the North and Northeast regions have warnings of heavy rain, floods and landslides for today and Wednesday (8).
