The death of the young radio station from Santa Cruz, Diana Porcel, reported on February 5, will be investigated as a femicide, reported the Santa Cruz departmental prosecutor, Roger Mariaca.
The decision was made after finding evidence that the announcer’s death was not a suicide, a hypothesis that was handled at first.
“The main prosecutor in the first instance dismissed the complaint for femicide that existed regarding the crime committed against Mrs. Diana Porcel, so in a well-founded manner (…) it has been ordered that an investigation be carried out for the crime of femicide,” he indicated. The prosecutor stressed that a commission of prosecutors was created to investigate the case of femicide. He added that there is evidence, such as photographs, videos and statements from people “who have referential and face-to-face knowledge of what would have happened days before and on the day of the event,” he explained.
Diana was 23 years old the night she was found dead in her apartment. The forensic report indicated that her body presented extrinsic cervical compression (strangulation) and anoxic anoxia (the air does not reach the brain due to the obstruction of the respiratory tract).
The family reported that she had scratches and bruises on her body and asked that the case be investigated as a femicide, pointing to Carlos V., the young woman’s ex-partner, as responsible.
In his statement, the man claimed that he found her dead. Her family, on the contrary, denounced that the man harassed and threatened her.
