President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had work meetings, this Monday (21), at Palácio da Alvorada, and will undergo new exams, this Tuesday (22), to then define the agenda for the next few days. Last Saturday, Lula fell in the bathroom of his official residence, hit his head and needed five stitches in the back of his head.
Through social media, the president released a photo of the meeting with Padilha and the special advisor to the Presidency, Celso Amorim. “We talked about the national and international political agenda for the coming days,” he wrote.
According to the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, who was with Lula, the president is “very active” and, “at no point did he experience any type of loss of consciousness or disorientation”. “He was the one who sought help at that moment [da queda] and the medical team carried out all the tests. The cancellation of the trip and future guidance from the medical team is in the monitoring protocol”, he detailed.
Due to the domestic accident, Lula canceled the trip to Kazanin Russia, to participate in the Brics Leaders’ Summit, a bloc of emerging countries of which Brazil is part. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vierais representing the country at the event and, according to Padilha, will maintain constant contact with the president about the topics under debate. Lula is expected to participate via videoconference at the summit.
Upon his return from Russia, the president was expected to participate in campaign events in the state of São Paulo, on the occasion of the second round of municipal elections, on Sunday (27), in addition to voting in São Bernardo do Campo, Lula’s electoral home. The president also has a trip scheduled to Cali, Colombia, where the United Nations conference on biodiversity is taking place.
Lula’s presence on these agendas therefore depends on medical clearance.
“I want to send a message of reassurance, that the trip was canceled due to medical orders to maintain this observation, to avoid a very long trip, it is several hours to travel to where the Brics meeting is, I was going to work in a different time zone”, explained Padilha.
The president underwent tests at Hospital Sírio-Libanês, in Brasília, on Saturday night (19), after the fall, and also on Sunday morning (20). According to the medical report, Lula suffered a “blunt injury to the occipital region”, the accident was not serious and he was able to carry out his other activities in the federal capital.
