The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, delivered a new balance sheet as a result of the emergency due to the forest fires that plague the central area of the country.
Specifically, the Undersecretary of State reported that there are currently 260 accidents, of which 77 are still in combat. Likewise, he reported that the total number of hectares affected as a result of the accidents reached 439,000.
Regarding forest fires by region, Monsalve explained that the most “relevant” incidents remain the so-called “Río Blanco” in the Longaví commune, Maule region. Likewise, he declared that in Ñuble “the fires have been deactivated with a red alert, but the Santa Gertrudis fire remains in Quillón and in Ninhue, ‘Casablanca 3’.”
On the other hand, the authority pointed out that in Biobío “the ‘El Cortijo’ fire continues, which last night had little activity” and that in Santa Ana, “which is a complex fire that has affected Nacimiento and Santa Juana”, “it have kept active overnight”.
In the region of La Araucanía, the “El Molino” fire, located in the commune of Victoria, “in which it is in Teodoro Schmidt and ‘Alto Huimpil’ in Galvarino” is maintained. “We have reiterated in recent days that the emergency has not ended. It is contained, but it is not overcome,” Monsalve added.
“We are going to maintain all the attention of public and private institutions, because the climatic conditions of the country are going to continue, and worsen, in terms of favorable conditions for fires between now and February 23,” the Undersecretary of the Interior sentenced.
