Róger Reyes was imprisoned by the Ortega-Murillo regime on August 20, 2021. He was put on trial for allegedly undermining national integrity and sovereignty. He sentenced to 10 years in jail. He spent a year and a half in the cells of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance in Managua, known as El Chipote, from where he was taken by the dictatorship on February 9, 2023 to be sent to the US and then stripped of his Nicaraguan nationality.
