The legislators begin this Monday a new stage of negotiations for the bill of the pension reform. After a political agreement between the leaders of the government coalition, adjustments will be made to the text that will be voted on by Deputies. In addition, the economic team will present fiscal projections and forecast calculation, according to official sources reported to Underlined.
Among the agreements reached, the decision to separate the investment chapter of the AFAPs to deal with it in another bill, in order to achieve greater diversification of the pension fund placement portfolio, stands out.
In addition, the government has agreed to reduce the number of years used to calculate the average salary that is the basis for the initial retirement allowance. This implies an important modification for the reform, since it directly affects the amount of the initial retirement that workers will receive.
Cabildo Abierto accompanies the vote on the pension reform
In this sense, Senator Guido Manini Ríos, leader of the Cabildo Abierto, confirmed this morning that his sector will vote in favor of the pension reform. In his words, “practically everything we ask to improve the project will be considered.”
“From the first moment we said that we wanted a law that would make the system sustainable, and we are complying exactly with what we said,” added the senator.
The Cabildo Abierto vote is essential for the approval of the pension reform, since the ruling party does not have a majority in both chambers. With this support, it is expected that the initiative will progress in its treatment and a solution can be reached that guarantees the sustainability of the pension system in the long term.
