After accident, Rincón dies in hospital in Colombia

Former Colombian soccer player Freddy Rincón died last night (13), at the age of 55, at the Hospital Clínica Imbanaco, where he was hospitalized to treat a traumatic brain injury. He could not resist the injuries caused by an accident that occurred on the 11th, when the car in which he was being transported was hit, at an intersection, by a bus in the Colombian city of Cali. The player, who played in midfield as a defensive midfielder, played in three world cups (1990, 1994 and 1998) for the Colombian national team. Born in Buenaventura, on August 14, 1966, Rincón began his football career in the team named after the city where he was born.

He also played for Deportes Tolima, Independiente Santa Fé and América de Cali in Colombia. In Europe, he played for Napoli (Italy) and Real Madrid (Spain). And in Brazil he played for Palmeiras, Santos, Cruzeiro and Corinthians, the team for which he was world champion in 2000.

Tributes

The death of the ace was remembered on social media by some of the teams he played for. “It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a great idol. Our captain in the first world title, Freddy Rincón passed away in the early hours of this Thursday. Forever in our hearts”, tweeted Corinthians. “Thank you for everything, Rincón!” posted Palmeiras, who also had the player in their squad.

“Santos FC deeply regrets the death of former player Freddy Rincón. The Colombian legend defended Peixão between 2000 and 2001. Our feelings to all the friends and family of the player, who will never be forgotten by the Santos nation. peace, Rincón!”, honored Santos.

“Cruzeiro mourns the death of our former athlete, Freddy Rincón, Colombian idol. To family, friends and fans, we wish strength in this moment of pain”, tweeted Cruzeiro. The death of the player was also reported by the clubs Real Madrid, Napoli, América de Cali, Independiente Santa Fé and Tolima.
