The elected mayor of Porto Alegre, Sebastião Melo, accompanied by vice-president Betina Worm, was sworn in this Wednesday (1st). During the ceremony, at the City Hall of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, religious authorities celebrated an ecumenical act and remembered the floods that hit the state in May 2024.
“This moment deserves a blessing because councilors and mayors, all together, will have to represent the entire people of Porto Alegre. May everything you do be successful and benefit the city of Porto Alegre,” said Rabbi Mendel Liberow.
“May Oxum have mercy on everyone. May she, being the mother of water, owner of water, calm her heart regarding everything that happened in May. May all councilors come with strength, with light and may I hope it can bless you all”, highlighted babalorixá Pai Chiquinho de Oxalá.
“At the opening of this new year, 2025, the jubilee year, we are invited by Pope Francis to be pilgrims of hope. Our city of Porto Alegre, after the climate tragedy of 2024, more than ever, lives this hope in the strength and faith of its people”, declared Father Alexandre Silveira Chaves.
