After 8 years without justice, he finds his daughter’s murderer in a concert

For eight years, Claudia Juana Correa Torres looked for her daughter’s feminicide and organized more than 100 demonstrations exhibiting her photographs and her name. A few days ago, a girl called him saying what he always dreamed: “I am seeing Luis Gustavo, here is, at the band’s concert The addictive”

Relaxed, enjoying the event in Boca del Río, the man who in a park in the Florida neighborhood stabbed his daughter, Claudia Alondra Suárez Correa, 21, walked quietly through Veracruz.

No one was looking for him, except her and other mothers and daughters, fighting companions. Impunity, that endemic evil that Mexico suffered. Even Claudia Juana sometimes thought that he had already died. But when he went to recognize him, he looked at him when he left the concert, he pointed out, the police stopped him and thought: “Now mine goes! … You killed my daughter, you had no mercy, now it’s your turn.”

In recent days, he recalled the suffering of losing his daughter about to graduate from the Bachelor of Foreign Trade and International Relations, the judicial battle to locate him, the marches and seedlings he headed demanding justice for eight years: I was dead in lifehe mentioned in an interview with The day.

Widow and working as a waitress to carry out her two daughters, the mother tells that in 2017, Claudia Alondra maintained a six -month courtship with her aggressor: At first he seemed to be affectionate with her, I saw her happy. But suddenly the relationship began to change and evolved for worse with episodes of violence. I noticed her worried and the last month of courtship was stronger her discomfort because he was very jealous, she checked her phone so she decided to end him.

Account that Luis Gustavo N took, without his permission, a copy of the key to his house: That detail was very important because from there he detonated everything for him to see my daughter again. And I had to intervene to claim and ask for the key. He told me that he was going back to me. On the night of September 11 he went to the house to return it, but my daughter came out and began to argue, then they went to Oxxo and then to the park where the events happened.

Duck: He gave him several stabs; two in the jugular. It was frightening. My daughter is found dead in the morning in a gardener a few steps from our house. Terrible. And I started looking for him, it was what I did. I never stopped looking for it. Very painful. I’m always going to feel incomplete without my daughter.

Claudia Juana said that feminicide was covered by the press and instead of the authorities looking for the person in the house, time was lost and Luis Gustavo fled.

The authorities said they were investigating and doing their protocols, but I didn’t see much answer. Therefore, after a few days of mourning, I made the decision to make the first march to demand justice for my daughter. And from there he triggered that they turn to see me, although I believe that all citizens have the right to protect us without the need to scandal, in my case that served to take care of me. On October 24, 2018 they offered a reward of 250 thousand pesos to find their whereabouts.

However, after the years the prosecution authorities were changing and started again with the investigation folder: I realized that everything was still the same and Luis Gustavo escaped at the beginning, but then I had comments that had seen him here, that they came to see him in the clubs, which was here, then, but we never found him. Now they tell me that I had two years of returning to Veracruz. He was here where he committed feminicide, like Juan for his house.

Some mothers of murdered or missing daughters become detectives, decide to investigate on their own and follow the clues they find, given the lack of action of the authorities.

A few days ago, finally a girl who had seen her photo and her name in some of the marches, seedlings and protests, recognized him during an outdoor concert, despite the fact that her appearance was different, especially because she brought a beard. The young woman wrote to her daughter Cassandra’s Facebook and sent her a photo saying that she was in the festivities of Santa Ana, in Boca del Río, and that at 10 at night she had entered the concert.

“I was dismayed, angry, I doubted everything. I thought that since eight years had happened, people change. Physically it looked similar, their face was a bit different from the beard, more mature. But my daughter Cassandra immediately told me: Yes, Luis Gustavo, mom, is. I’m sure!.

Given the notice, the lawyer sought the coordinator of the specialized prosecutors, Roberta Ayala Luna and immediately put together an operation in conjunction with the Ministerial Police and the National Guard to fulfill the order of apprehension pending for eight years. His case is carried by the lawyer Esmeralda Lexciur Ferreira of the organization Lawyers with perspective and are supported by the Green Colmena collective of Veracruz.

The authorities moved very quickly. They asked for their identification. Of course it was him! I was full of emotions. We have gone through a very difficult psychologically and some things blocked them, but my daughter did identify until her voice.

The judge of control and prosecution of the Judiciary of Veracruz, José Clemente Zorrilla, issued a two -year preventive detention and later on July 30, linked it to the process: The test data delivered by the Prosecutor’s Office were enough to link it. You can receive a fairly wide sentence according to the Criminal Code.

Maximum penalty

Claudia Juana remembers that she continued her fight, not only to stop her daughter’s murderer, but to try to protect other women: If my daughter did it, you can do it to others, as many times as you want, without any pain. If he killed others, we don’t know, but at least he has to pay for what he did to my daughter.

I never lost hope, I went into despair, but I never resigned myself. It helped companions to spread the faces of other feminicides. Imagine, Luis Gustavo was here where he committed his crime and even fear. There is much impunity, so I was not even afraid, if it had been, I would have walked more discreet, I would not have gone to places as public as a concert: my lawyer told me: when I trust more, we will find it there. And so it was thanks to God.

Duck: It is never too late to do justice. Many people have looked for me to congratulate me, I thank you but the fight continues. I hope you do not leave it free and give it the maximum penalty, 70 years. I trust the judge, I have a lot of faith.

He says that in this fighting path he met other women who were looking for the murderers of their daughters for more than 10 years: We are all there, struggled as mothers, without limits. There are many femicides without punishment.

According to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, 839 femicides were registered in Mexico last year, although some were cataloged as Dolo Homicide and guilty homicide. The state of Veracruz is in fourth place, with 53 femicides; in third, Nuevo León, with 60; Mexico City in second, with 65, and State of Mexico in First, with 73.

Claudia Alondra’s mother thanks the person who warned of Luis Gustavo’s presence and helped her capture, so she has requested the reward of 250 thousand pesos: I hope it is given according to the laws, with respect and secrecy, although we know that he did it from the heart, he deserves it for fulfilling his citizen ethics.

Asks other women who do not give up in the fight

He said that the trial is carried out with the highest standards that exist to judge a case of femicide and with a gender perspective as a constitutional obligation, so that his daughter’s femicide does not go unpunished.

Claudia Juana’s emotions accumulate. He says that the last days has dreamed of his daughter and wakes up tired, as if he had not slept anything. During the audiences anxiety invades and stops eating.
