Áfrika Reina on Luis Manuel Otero: “His spirit is unbreakable, it really is”

MIAMI, United States.- The activist Áfrika Reina, friend of the Cuban artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, denounced in an interview with CubaNet the situation of the political prisoner in the Guanajay prison, where he has been incarcerated since July 2021, when he tried to join the massive anti-government protests that took place on the 11th of that month throughout the country.

Reina assured this Tuesday that she is “invaded by the impotence of not being able to do something forceful” to help Luis Manuel, after the activist’s uncle told him the details of the visit that his relatives were able to make on April 1st. .

“Luis right now is very thin because the food they give him is very bad, it’s on the bone and he is a man with a strong constitution,” he said, adding that “his skin is very damaged” because the injuries he has as a result of a dermatitis have worsened a lot.

“The prison authorities don’t let him sunbathe, they don’t let him have contact with other prisoners,” and that isolation and lack of vitamin D is fatal to what he already had, Reina explained.

He also “has low hemoglobin. His immune system is completely compromised,” he denounced.

Áfrika Reina explained to the journalist Yaima Pardo during the direct that his family was able to verify that the rumors about his last hunger strike were true, that he was transferred from the emergency room to a hospital, “because he suffered paralysis and now he has an injury as a consequence. in one eye He all the time he says that he has a stain. He has asked to be taken to the ophthalmologist, but he has not received medical attention,” she noted.

Luis Manuel Otero “is not allowed to have contact with other prisoners, we know that the hygiene of that place is deplorable, so he is exposed to any disease or infection. They are deteriorating his health ”to have that as an excuse tomorrow, he denounced.

Despite everything that is happening in prison, Otero Alcántara “remains firm that he is not going to leave Cuba. So that makes the regime continue to retaliate against him. It is incredible how that boy from the inside tries to encourage those of us who are outside. His spirit is unbreakable, it really is, ”he sentenced.

Queen Afrika made a call to all Cuban women and men, “children of the sea and the river to join us on the coast to make a prayer for the freedom of Cuba. To unite and unite our energies and our forces to make an immense prayer for the prosperity of this country and for the freedom of our political prisoners”.
