AFP retirement: Julio Velarde considers that contribution must be mandatory

The president of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), Julio Velarde, considered that a new Retirement of AFP funds It means a social problem for the future and supported that the contribution is mandatory.

“In all countries in Latin America, and in almost everyone, the contribution is mandatory. (…) No one likes to be mandatory, but many people believe that they will later save or say that they will save if they are going to die at age 70, but then live up to 98 years,” he added.

The official indicated that those who have resources within their funds are people with greater resources, since those of minors have already released the resources of their individual accounts.

“People who had lower revenues have already released a large part of their funds. There are 1.7 million who have already taken everything, 2.5 million contributing affiliates have nothing and what they are being are people with higher revenues,” he added.

System reform

On the other hand, Julio Velarde spoke about the pension reform and indicated that the individual accounts system that exists in the private should be maintained.

However, he pointed out that there are some points of the reform with which they disagree as the contribution of the IGV for consumption and the mandatory contribution from the age of 18.
