Affected by diethylene glycol ask the authorities to increase their pension from $800 to $1,500

Without a firm response, but with an agenda signed by the health authorities to follow a roadmap that allows their requests to be evacuated, the victims of diethylene glycol and their families left a meeting at the Social Security Fund (CSS) this Wednesday.

After last Tuesday, those affected by the toxic will close the Pan-American highway, at the height of Divisa, on Wednesday a meeting was held in which the Minister in charge of Health, Ivette Berrío, and the general director of the CSS, Enrique Lau, participated.

“Our interest is not to be closing streets, but the victims are the ones who asked to protest, because the Executive has only exceeded promises and has not fulfilled them,” said Gabriel Pascual, president of the Committee of victims and relatives poisoned by diethylene glycol.

He explained that during the meeting, a response was sought about the significant number (around a thousand) of people waiting for their certification that they are affected by the toxic, however the authorities recognized that it is not an easy issue to resolve.

Pascual stressed that there are some critical points that must be discussed in each of the stages, such as certifications that are overdue for more than six years, the educational part and the housing part.

He also stated that the government authorities have been asked to increase the monthly pension they receive, which is in the amount of $800 to $1,500.

“This increase is being requested due to the high cost of living and thus facing the cost of medicines. We have carried out some real analyzes and surveys and this is the figure that a patient requires to deal with the disease,” he argued.

The leader indicated that there is a lack of willingness on the part of the authorities to speed up these processes.

At the moment the new date for the next meeting has not been defined.
