AES Dominicana buys renewable energy portfolio

The company Dominican AES acquired, through a purchase-sale agreement with the Inkia group, a new portfolio of renewable energy with which the electricity generator adds strategic assets including the wind farm “Clear Water I” of 50 megawatts, located in Montecristi, and several projects in different areas of the country.

AES reported that this step is part of its sustainability strategy, since these 50MW reduce carbon dioxide emissions with an estimated 124 thousand metric tons per year

“Our projects are of paramount importance because they reaffirm the Dominican Republic as the country with the fastest growth in energy from non-conventional renewable sources in the entire region and, therefore, the one with the greatest capacity to attract investment that seeks to chain all its productivity in a more sustainable way”, expressed Edwin SantosPresident of Dominican AES.

He added that with this operation, AES reaches 150 megawatts of renewable energywhich is added to the existing competitive generation portfolio and the natural gas infrastructure that has generated significant savings and efficiencies for the Dominican Republic.

“These investments are the initial step in the renewable energy growth strategy under development where AES plans to reach 790 MW in the coming years”De Los Santos pointed out in a press release.

On his side, the CEO of Inkia EnergyWillem Van Twembeke was pleased with the transaction: “Our teams worked hand in hand during this process, and we are confident that the development potential of the acquired projects will be realised.”
