The company Dominican Airports 21st Century (Aerodom) categorically rejected any public accusation regarding an alleged repeated breach of its contractual obligations, by ensuring that it has complied and continues to fully comply with all the commitments assumed in the Concession Contract, including the development of the new terminal from Las Américas International Airport, José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA).
In an official statement, the company explained that since Vinci Airports took control of Aerodom have been executed sustained investmentsverifiable and visible in the country’s airport infrastructure, which exceed the 75 million dollarsonly in the years 2024 and 2025.
Among the works carried out, Aerodom highlighted the construction of the new cargo terminal and the renovation of AILA’s central atrium, as well as the development of solar parks in all concessioned airports, with an installed capacity of more than 9 megawatts, which positions the company as one of the main private self-generators of energy in the country.
Likewise, the company detailed that in the last two years important improvements have been made to the AILA, including the remodeling and expansion of parking lotsthe construction of a rainwater collection system, the comprehensive renovation of the arrivals and departures areas, and the ongoing installation of a new automated baggage handling system.
In relation to the new terminal of the AILA, Aerodom indicated that it is a large-scale project with high technical complexity, which has progressed in accordance with the most demanding international standards.
Preparatory phase began in June 2025
The company explained that during 2024 and 2025 a preparatory phase criticism, which included specialized geotechnical studies, the comprehensive design of the project and the obtaining of the environmental permits corresponding.
According to the statement, construction work began in June 2025 with preparatory work such as demolitions and land release, already completed, allowing the signing of the main contract construction in December 2025.
The completion of the work is scheduled for second half of 2028with a total investment of more than 350 million dollars, an amount that exceeds what was originally established in the Concession Contract.
Abinader’s warning
On January 28, the President of the Republic, Luis Abinaderwarned that the Government would be willing to go to the courts Yeah Vinci Airportsparent company of Aerodomdoes not effectively begin the construction of the new terminal of AILA.
During a meeting with opinion leaders, the president recalled that the first draft of the project was carried out in August 2025 together with executives from Vinci Airportsbut he pointed out that so far no visible progress in the work.
Abinader stated that the renewal of the concession contract was granted with the objective of guaranteeing the necessary improvements at the airports, commitments that – as he indicated – have not been fulfilled within the agreed deadlines.
Along the same lines, the Minister of Tourism, David Colladourged in December 2025 to Aerodom to begin construction of the new terminal and to catch up, as has happened with other air terminals in the country.
Aerodom reaffirmed its commitment to continue working in coordination with the Dominican State, ensuring that the executed investmentsmeasurable results and adherence to international best practices demonstrate its long-term commitment to the development of modern and safe airport infrastructure in the Dominican Republic.
