This weekend, the president of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), Óscar Torres Yarzagaray, officially delivered the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón de Palmira International Airport to the Civil Aeronautics, who will assume the operation of the air terminal while the government advances with the award of a new dealership that develops the expansion and modernization.

“Alfonso Bonilla Aragón airport fulfills its 25 -year concession period, in which it mobilized more than 100 million people and generated $ 1.3 billion in consideration to the municipality of Palmira and La Nación. We deliver a terminal to the aerocivil in perfect condition for its operation”said the president of the ANI.
The return of the main air terminal of the Pacific region is part of the reversion stage formed by 14 subsystems, whose progress, signatures and approvals were subscribed by previous work tables and verification visits with the Aerocivil.

In the last quarter of this year the process of specifications of the Private initiative called ‘Airports del Suroccident’which contemplates the expansion and modernization of this important air terminal.
With this new airport project a new double purpose building (national and international), new boarding bridges, a new building for aerocivil, expansion of the load platform and the construction of a new control tower, among other interventions, will be built.

Permanent monitoring table
Faced with this change, the business organizations of Valle del Cauca issued a statement in which they called on the government to guarantee, “With resources, planning and strategic vision”that Alfonso Bonilla Aragon maintains its levels of service, safety and efficiency.

They also announced the creation of a permanent monitoring table to monitor the award of the next operator.

“This table will remain active until the adjudication of a new airport concession, according to the commitment assumed by the National Government. Its purpose is to monitor and accompany the process of transition from the airport, guaranteeing that it be ahead with quality, efficiency and transparency, for the benefit of the Colombian southwest”They added the units.

During the 25 years of concession, The airport mobilized more than 100 million passengers, generated around 1.3 billion pesos in consideration for Palmira and La Nación.
Only in July 2025, 671,667 passengers (530,719 national and 140,948 international) were mobilized, figures that reflect the magnitude and strategic relevance of this terminal for the economy, tourism and connectivity.
