AEBU continued this Monday December 14 with union measures. The workers carried out a 24-hour strike with a concentration at the headquarters of the State Insurance Bank, and then delivered a letter to the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, in which they set out their demands.
The bank workers’ union demands a good faith negotiation, within the framework of the discussion of the new collective agreement, the entry of personnel, that the outsourced and privatized ones be considered as vacancies to be filled, the salary increase, and the inclusion of the Agency National Housing (ANV) in the collective agreement of the official bank.
Bank stoppage for ten days
The president of the Council of the Official Financial Sector, Lorena Lavecchia, told various media outlets that the Ministry of Labor is trying to mediate the conflict, but neither the Planning and Budget Office (OPP) nor the Ministry of Economy and Finance are willing to sit down and negotiate with the workers.
“On this basis of lockdown, what remains for us is to deepen the measures, because public companies are at risk,” said Lavecchia.

He assured that on Friday the 18th union measures would increase and could even “paralyze the entire financial system for more than 10 days.”
He recalled that the march planned for February 25, towards Punta del Este, is being maintained, which will include the demands not only of the banks, but also of the Trade Union Coordinating Board of Entities, private education and the Uruguayan Federation of Cooperatives of Mutual Aid Housing (FUCVAM).
