From the afternoon of this Friday and until midday on Monday, a unemployment of the official banking sector decreed by the Association of Bank Employees of Uruguay (AEBU). The measure implies that until unemployment is lifted there will not be reloading money at Redbrou ATMs from various departments, covering the following points: Carmelo, Colonia, Atlántida, Piriápolis, Sugar Loaf, Maldonado, Punta del Este, San Carlos, BROU IMM, Punta Shopping, La Paloma, Castillos, Chuy and Rocha.
The AEBU resolution came after a meeting this Friday between the union and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS). Trade unionist Matías Arbizu stated at a press conference that the ministry had promised to present a written proposal, but that at the meeting “There was no real proposal on the table by the Executive Branch.” According to Arbizu, the insistence on a salary adjustment of 5.8% was resumed, which “means a proposal for a salary reduction.” The counselor clarified that this proposal does not recognize the loss caused by the “inflation difference” between what was adjusted in January 2021 and the real inflation of the year.
Faced with the “stalled negotiation”, the Council decided to reactivate the measures that had already been resolved and that had been interrupted around this meeting.
“We expected a negotiation in good faith,” he lamented. “If the negotiation remains deadlocked, then there will be a toughening of the measures by the union.” The leader added that they will return to analyze the realization of a 24-hour strike and a march to Punta del Este.
The government delegation meeting on Friday was made up of the Undersecretary of Labor and Social Security, Mario Arizti; the national director of Labor, Federico Daverede; representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Planning and Budget Office (OPP), the Civil Service Office and officials from official banks.
At the end of the meeting, Arizti maintained that the actions resolved by AEBU “these are not measures that are justified”.
