Advocates aligning education with the labor market

The National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (Anje) alerted Monday about the urgency of aligning higher and technical education with the real needs of the Dominican labor market.

According to the study of human talent against the current and future demand of the Dominican Republic, 45 % of university registration is concentrated in careers, such as education, psychology, accounting, medicine and law, which record the lowest salary growth, while only 12 % enroll in High employability areas and remuneration, like Stem and languages.

Through a statement, he indicated that the situation is even more critical in Higher Technical Educationwith just 3 % registration, despite being one of the areas most demanded by companies.

This disconnection between the academic offer and the Business demand It has direct effects on youth employability. 54 % of companies find difficulties in hiring qualified personnel, and 38 % invest a significant amount in training to level competencies.

He stressed that this reality is also reflected in The findings of the study prepared by the IEET entitled “Best practices for the impulse of youth labor (first job) in the Dominican Republic”, which positions the country as the third in Latin America with the highest proportion of young people who neither study nor work (Nini), with 26.6 % in ages of 15 to 24 years, a figure that in women reaches 31.7 %.

Also, young people aged 15 to 24 present the worse job qualitywith 37.3 %, compared to older age groups, which limits its opportunities for growth and job stability, and that could be directly related to the data that the Center for Citizen Security Data Analysis (CADSECI) has that most cases of crimes are carried out by groups in that age range.

Faced with this panorama, Anje stressed the urgency of promoting a disruptive strategy that details a true structural change, combining fAcademic ormation Pertinent, first job programs and practical experiences within companies.

  • Boost Dual formation And professional practices through public -private efforts are not optional, it is strategic.

The recent regulations launched by he Mescyt and the Ministry of the Presidency for the creation of the National System of Professional Practices and Internships in Higher Education constitutes an institutional anchor point.

We advocate its expeditious and effective implementation, ensuring that The Mescyt of the necessary steps to specify the system in the compromised deadlines and that the adequacy times of the higher and technical education programs are significantly reduced.

This framework must be complemented with inclusion strategies, the use of digital labor -link platforms and strengthening public-private alliancesso that a real impact on the reduction of youth unemployment is generated.

In this sense, initiatives such as the Business Alliance promoted by Indotel for Stem skills development They represent tangible opportunities to consolidate dual formation and close the persistent gap between the academy and the productive sector.

Joint

In the same way, the Business Initiative for Technical Education (IEET) constitutes an ally fundamental strategiccontinuing to promote the articulation between academia, company and youth, in order to boost the development of a highly competitive technical talent for the country.

In full coherence with our wishes Anje 2025we reiterate the urgency of reforming technical – professional education, promoting formalization and generating effective bridges between companies and academia.

“Our commitment remains to work together with the State, The Academy and the business sector to build an educational and labor system that guarantees quality jobs for Dominican youth, “Anje said.

Investing in competencies aligned with productive demands will not only enhance the Youth Labor Insertionbut it will also raise national competitiveness, expand social mobility opportunities and contribute to more inclusive and sustainable economic development.
