The possibility of retiring at age 75 is close, and it would be a voluntary decision. This is due to the fact that a forecast that brings together four bills for this purpose was approved yesterday by the Labor and Social Security Commission of Congress.
The document includes bills 1535/2021-CR, 2510/2021-CR, by Eduardo Salhuana (APP) and Francis Paredes (Bloque Magisterial), respectively, as well as initiatives 1505/2021-CR and 2824/2022-CR , by Juan Burgos, which were presented, the first when the legislator was in Avanza País and the other when he ended up in Podemos.
The opinion must still be debated in the plenary session of Congress to be approved, and if it happens, it would modify the labor regimes 276, 728 and (law) 30057.
The proposal mentions that for a person to be able to work until the age of 75, there must be a medical study that confirms that they are physically and mentally fit to carry out their work activities.
The approval of the norm would lead to broadening the horizon of having formal employment and social protection for said people, since currently the retirement age is 65 years and it becomes mandatory at 70.
The reality of the elderly
According to data from the electronic payroll of the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration, in November 2022 there were 75,024 adults aged 65 or over working in the country in the private sector. The figure was higher than the 73,000 of the previous month and higher than the 67,000 of November 2021.
In addition, of the more than 75,000 adults mentioned, 41,512 (55.3%) worked in the service sector and 14,842 (19.8%) were engaged in commerce.
