National Electoral Commission offers election results
The National Electoral Commission of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) offered this Monday the preliminary results of the national elections of the teachers’ union in which Eduardo Hidalgo, who heads the group Eugenio María de Hostos, was the winner.
The current leader Eugenio María de Hostos, together with his allies, obtained 66,514 votes, for 62.01%.
While Nolberto Ortiz from the plank José Francisco Peña Gómez and allies obtained 23,146 votes, for 21.58%, followed by Sixto Gabín from the plank Espacio Magisterial Narciso González and allies with 8,751 votes for 8.16%. Meanwhile, the group of the Magisterial Force and allies, headed by Adhamilka Espinal obtained 7,805 for 7.28%.
Gilberto Almonte, president of the CNE, when offering the results, highlighted that, as the governing body of the elections, the commission guaranteed the right of teachers to elect and be elected.
«The consolidation of the data shows an unprecedented participation in the electoral processes of this union, reaching a vote of 107,255 teachers, who exercised their right to vote for a percentage of 77%, of an enrollment with the right to vote of 137,773 teachers,” declared Almonte.
He added that the CNE congratulates all teachers for their massive, civic and orderly participation in the internal elections, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the ADP. “Our recognition to the teachers who made up the local electoral commissions for the commendable work done.
In these elections, 21 leaders were elected to the National Executive Committee, five to the National Disciplinary Court and five to the National Council of Commissioners and 2,958 municipal and zonal leaders for a total of 2,989 throughout the country.
