ADP declares day of mourning for account embargo, qualifies as an attempt to boycott elections

ADP declara día de duelo por embargo de cuentas califica como intento de boicot a elecciones

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) declared this coming Monday, October 7, as a day of mourning after the embargo of all the union’s accounts by the Ministry of Education (Minerd).

This measure has been considered by the ADP as an attempt to boycott the internal electoral process scheduled for Wednesday, October 9.

At an extraordinary meeting of the National Executive Committee, held this morning, members assessed the situation and decided to take several measures.

First, the ADP plans to denounce the government’s action both nationally and internationally, considering it an attack on freedom of association in the Dominican Republic.

Likewise, the organization reiterated to all teachers that the elections will take place as planned. They called on teachers to vote en masse and decisively, with the aim of strengthening the ADP.

In addition, Monday, October 7, was declared a day of mourning, urging teachers to attend their workplaces dressed in black as a sign of protest.

Finally, the ADP announced a mobilization process that will begin on Monday, October 7 in Greater Santo Domingo and will spread throughout the country after the elections.

The organization called on all teachers to remain firm and united, reaffirming their commitment to defend the rights of teachers in the face of what they consider government nonsense. The ADP assures that, despite the obstacles, it will continue to fight for the well-being of its members.
