Raúl Omar del Rosario, president of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), in Villa Hermosa, La Romana, called a work stoppage indefinitely to all union-based units, directors of educational centers, teachers, coordinators and psychologists as of this Monday, February 6.
In a letter addressed to the teachers, he points out that the reason for the strike is based on “intimidation of the honorable director of district 05-11, of Villa Hermosa” towards induction teachers, teachers and directors of already regulated educational centers “that if they obey the provisions of this Municipal Executive Committee, ADP will carry out a “report”.
“Notwithstanding that, he intimidated the induction teachers in meetings at schools to which he appeared, directors who announced that they will place locks on the doors so that no teacher leaves at the scheduled time,” points to the letter addressed to teachers.
Del Rosario assured that for 11 months they have been patient after having had several unsuccessful attempts regarding union and labor law issues and pointed out that the teachers were not “a personal project of any individual, except that of training and educating students.”
“It is good to inform from this document that induction teachers also quote membership to our section and that they have the right to abide by the call of ADP, these professionals are not puppets and are not here to support manipulations. Therefore, the induction hour places them in a dual labor and even in danger, since they must connect on the way to their homes ”, stood out from Rosario.
The representative of the La Romana branch points out that they have been tolerant and passive and that they have tried to carry out processes “inexhaustible” of dialogue, and that the director of that district keeps them excluded from the educational processes and the activities of the education of that community.
“The reality of our centers is chaotic, we need administrative staff, resources, janitors, gardeners, night watchmen, school security, etc., and no changes have been observed in the problems raised, even so, we have been patient”stands out in the letter.
They assured that the condition of the schools is precarious and that they lack basic services such as bathrooms and that for this reason the children have seen the need to fulfill “their physiological needs over others”, which makes them prone to obtain a bacterium.
Because of this, the representatives of the ADP of Villa Hermosa urged teachers to call for an indefinite strike starting Monday, February 6, 2023.
They will also demonstrate with banners, drums, güiras, poetry, etc., on the sidewalk of the Luis H. Payan Polytechnic, until 12:00 noon and on Tuesday at the Bill Grant School.
“It is totally prohibited to meet with the teachers in the centers with any member of the district in relation to the union position, any topic is a conversation with the ADP. Place subject with height and clearance”, finish the letter.
