ADP and Education agree vacations start Wednesday 21

Santo Domingo.- The National Council of Education (CNE) unanimously approved this Monday that in the present Christmas period teaching in public schools in the country ends on Wednesday the 21st of this month and not on the 23rd, as established in the Calendar of the 2022-2023 School Year.

The resolution, proposed by Olga Espaillat, representative of the Non-Denominational Private Schools, had the favorable vote of edward hidalgo, president of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), a union that had also supported the approval of the School Calendar. According to the decision, the Christmas holiday begins next Thursday the 22nd.

The Minister of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), Ángel Hernández, when presiding over the second ordinary section of the CNE, expressed that time must be given to recover learning and maximize the school calendar, taking advantage of as much time as possible in the classroom for students to learn.

“We are in a year of recovery, taking into account that the current school term started late, which was aggravated by Hurricane Fiona, which prevented the start of the school on September 19 as planned in most of the centers. on the 23rd”, observed the minister.

During the work session, two ordinances were also approved: one that establishes the revised and adequate curriculum for the Initial, Primary and Secondary levels, and the one that establishes the preparation of contents, materials and resources for learning.

Likewise, the Council annulled Departmental Order 33-2019, which established the design and implementation of the gender policy in MINERD.

A report was also presented on the National Induction Plan for new teachers, by Frank D’Oleo, Vice Minister of Teacher Accreditation and Certification.

Likewise, Ancell Scheker, Vice Minister of Technical and Pedagogical Services of MINERD, presented a report on the progress of the work of the commissions on the reform of the Education Law 66-97, for learning, adult education and Extended School Day.

In this regard, the minister hernandezindicated that with the results of the work of these commissions the Dominican educational system will be revolutionized, beginning with the Education Law and the other processes, which will have a very positive impact for the future in terms of the orientation of the system. national education, especially updating and modernizing all legislation, especially in what has to do with the evaluation of learning.
