Adoption in Peru: Know the requirements and what is the current process

According to the General Directorate of Adoptions (DGA) of the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP), at the national level, from 2017 to 2021, 699 children were registered. of minors of them 35 were in the Junín region. “People can be single, married, widowed, divorced or cohabiting, who are at least 25 years old and maximum 62 years old. Have good physical and mental health (submit certificates issued by competent professionals of the public IPRESS, not older than 6 months, which must be accompanied by the results of diagnostic aid tests); and have a minimum family economic capacity of S/ 2,700 (submit documents that prove the family’s economic capacity to cover the needs of the child or adolescent to be adopted)”reported the DGA.

Stages:

  • The first is the evaluation (preparation workshop, legal, psychological and social evaluation).
  • The second is the designation (the National Adoption Council receives the proposals from the families, evaluates them and designates each girl, boy or adolescent with their new family.
  • The third is family integration and lasts approximately 2 months in which the minor is included in the family.
  • The fourth is post-adoption when the integration has been positive and lasts 3 years in which the family receives visits and/or interviews from DGA professionals.
