Adompretur and Banco Popular congratulate Minister David Collado for recognition by UN Tourism

Adompretur y Banco Popular felicitan al ministro David Collado por reconocimiento de ONU Turismo

Saint Dominic– The Dominican Tourist Press Association (Adompretur) and the Dominican Popular Bank congratulated the Minister of Tourism, David Colladoafter receiving recognition from UN Tourism, an organization attached to the United Nations, which distinguished him as “Minister of the Americas” for his visionary leadership and his transformative role in the tourism sector.

On behalf of Adompretur, president Sarah Hernández expressed:

“We believe the distinction is well deserved, taking into account the results achieved during his administration. In the last five years, the Dominican Republic has received more than 40 million tourists, a figure that reflects the work, vision and perseverance of Minister Collado to maintain the country as a leading destination in the region.”

According to data from UN Tourism, in 2024, the Dominican Republic will consolidate itself as the main destination in the Caribbean and the third in all of America, only behind de United States and Canada. This sustained growth in visitor arrivals has been a pillar of the country’s economic momentum in recent years.

Sarah Hernández also highlighted the minister’s efforts to improve tourism infrastructure and diversify the offer, complying with the guidelines of President Luis Abinader. “Collado has known how to connect public management with the private sector, and that has been key to the results”, he stated.

For its part, Banco Popular, through its executive president Christopher Paniagua, also congratulated the official, highlighting that his management ““It has been characterized by clarity of goals, execution and results”translating into more visitors, more investment and more opportunities for thousands of Dominicans. Paniagua highlighted the coordination between the public and private sectors as a key factor to consolidate tourism as an engine of development and formal employment throughout the national territory.

During the award ceremony, the executive secretary of UN Tourism, Natalia Bayona, recognized the management capacity and strategic vision of Minister Collado, stating that ““His work has put the Dominican Republic on the map as an example of tourism leadership in Latin America.”

Hernández reported that this Thursday the UN Tourism delegation and Adompretur directors will hold a meeting to learn about the organization’s plans and the projects that the journalistic entity has been developing.

Banco Popular, as a historical leader in financing Dominican tourism, reiterated its commitment to continue supporting initiatives that boost the competitiveness of the destination and generate well-being in communities and Dominican society. Paniagua emphasized:

“Tourism is a country cause, and when institutions, businessmen and communities work together, the results always come.”
