Adoexpo muestra sorpresa y preocupación por proyecto de reforma laboral

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Association of Exporters (ADOEXPO) today expressed the concern and surprise of that sector at the government’s decision to present the bill to reform the Labor Code at a time when the country is immersed in the debate of other large-scale reforms, such as tax reform and constitutional reform.

The president of the entity, Karel Castillo, stated that this action, which he defined as “hasty” and “untimely” negatively and directly impacts the stability of the productive sector.

“We understood that there were still spaces for dialogue on non-consensual issues such as unemployment, which is of great importance for everyone, and subjecting the labor reform to debate at this time generates uncertainty,” declared Castillo.

He said that the situation worsens when it coincides with the review of a constitutional reform project and a tax reform project, which according to exporters, the aspects of these reforms related to the sector are harmful, since they reduce competitiveness, affect foreign investment and deteriorate the favorable climate for exports, reversing the progress made in this area.

The president of ADOEXPO He said that due process must be taken care of, since the dialogue and the content of the result of these reforms were not concluded.

The export sector urgently calls on President Luis Abinader Corona to establish an open and constructive dialogue, underlining the importance of addressing the ongoing reforms in a balanced and coordinated manner.

Castillo concluded by arguing that it is essential that these initiatives be managed with caution, taking into account their impact on the competitiveness and stability of the export sector, which has been a key driver for the country’s economic growth.
