HOLY SUNDAY. The Dominican Association of Film Professionals (ADOCINE) positively values President Luis Abinader’s decision to withdraw the film project. tax reform that was being discussed in the Chamber of Deputies, which included the repeal of the Film Law 108-10.
Hans García, president of ADOCINE, expressed his support for this action by the president, pointing out that “to err is human and to rectify is brave.” García emphasized that, if the reform had been carried out, a cultural and creative industry that generates important benefits for the country would have been put at risk.
“We have always been and will be willing to engage in dialogue. We understand that the country needs a comprehensive reform. We are not opposed to it; However, we believe that it is necessary to sit at the dialogue table and reach agreements that not only preserve our industry, but also strengthen it and contribute to the development of the country,” García stressed.
“The president recognized that the proposal did not receive the support of the people and the most affected sectors, which underlines the importance of listening to the voices of those who build and keep the film industry alive,” stated the president of the Guild.
