At the end of last year, a total of 2,871,100 people had suitable employment in Metropolitan Lima, a higher figure by 515,900 beds (21.9%) than in 2021, but still 9.5% below 2019, reported the INEI.
The result compared to 2019 includes 300,600 job positions still pending to be recovered at the level of adequate employment.
Underemployment was also higher than in 2019, with more than 2.1 million people underemployed compared to that year, equivalent to an increase of 23.3%.
Regarding unemployment, it affected 7.8% of the economically active population. This rate was lower than the 10.7% of 2021, but higher than the 6.6% of 2019.
“It is estimated that there were 421,800 people who were actively looking for a job in the capital,” the entity reported.
In total, the employed population in the capital was made up of almost 5.1 million people, 2.1% above 2019.
AVERAGE REMUNERATION
In addition, the average income reached S/1,714.7, higher than that of the last two years, but it was S/21.2 (1.2%) lower than the average income of the pre-pandemic year.
“In the year 2022, the average monthly income from the work of the main activity in Metropolitan Lima was located at s/1714, which meant an increase of 8.1% (S/127.9) and 6.7% (S/107.3), compared to the years 2021 and 2020. Meanwhile, compared to the year 2019, it decreased by 1.2% (-S/21.2)”, reported the INEI.
To this, the entity specified that in the analysis period, the income of men increased by 9.9% (S/176.3) and that of women by 5.6% (S/75.1). The average monthly income of men was S/1956.7 and that of women was S/1412.8. In the year 2022, the income of women represented 72.2% of the income of men”
