The candidacy of Carlos Prosperi was agreed unanimously, in an expanded secretariat, with the assistance of Secretary General Henry Ramos Allup and Vice President Edgar Zambrano. To date they go 21 opposition presidential candidates
The regional general secretaries of the «Democratic Action in Resistance» party unanimously agreed to support the internal candidacy of the national secretary of Organization, Carlos Prosperi, to the opposition presidential primaries, to be held in 2023.
“AD en Resistencia” is the term that the group led by Henry Ramos has been using to differentiate itself from its adecos namesakes, led by the side of Bernabé Gutiérrez, after the division that has kept them separated since June 2020.
The primaries are promoted by the Unitary Platform, one of the six blocks into which the Venezuelan opposition is divided, and for that group nine pre-candidates aspire, a figure that rises to 21, adding the rest of the alliances.
Prosperi received the support of his colleagues from the white party, during an extended secretariat, which was held last Monday, August 8, in a private room, in the state of Miranda, east of the city of Caracas.
The act was presided over by the secretary general, Henry Ramos, and by the vice president of the political organization, Edgar Zambrano. The meeting was also attended by Williams Dávila, who declared that he maintains his aspirations and will continue to tour the country, it was reported in a press release from the white awning.
Following interventions by regional leaders, the sectional secretary general of Anzoátegui state, Miguel Arismendi, proposed to the attendees the candidacy of Prosperi, who was unanimously acclaimed.
21 opposition presidential candidates
The list of presidential candidates for the Unitarian Platform is headed by Juan Guaidó of the Voluntad Popular party, recognized as interim president by more than 50 countries, including the United States and England.
He is followed by Carlos Prosperi, Williams Dávila (AD in Resistencia), Delsa Solórzano (Citizen Encounter), Manuel Rosales (UNT) governor of Zulia state, Roberto Enríquez (Copei), Carlos Ocariz and Juan Pablo Guanipa (First Justice) and Andrés Velásquez ( CSF).
This second opposition side, which opposes its namesakes of the Unitarian Platform to those who stripped them of their signs and electoral cards, with the intervention of the Supreme Court of Justice, five pre-candidates compete.
Bernabé Gutiérrez and Laidy Gómez (AD), Juan Carlos Alvarado (Copei), Leocenis García (Pro-citizens) and Claudio Fermín (Solutions).
Soy Venezuela, founded in 2017, is a coalition of political parties, civil organizations, and social leaders, including Antonio Ledezma, former Metropolitan Mayor of Caracas; Diego Arria, former ambassador to the UN; and María Corina Machado, founder of the Vente Venezuela (VV) movement.
The group is made up of, in addition to VV, Alianza Bravo Pueblo, Convergencia and Gente Emergente.
María Corina Machado has expressed her interest in participating in the primary process organized by the political parties of the Unitarian Platform.
Independent candidates
The list of opposition pre-candidates is completed by Antonio Ecarri (El Pencil); Gustavo Duque, mayor of the Chacao municipality (Neighborhood Force); Nicmer Evans, Chavista dissident (Democracy and Inclusion Movement) and the journalist Manuel Isidro Molina (Alternative Popular Movement).
The list of candidates is completed by César Pérez Vivas and Hiram Gaviria, president of the Unión y Entendimiento (Puente) party.
