After on Tuesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported the existence of 228 cases of acute hepatitis child of unknown origin, the Ministry of Health confirmed that there is already a case in the country.
As indicated by the ministry, the table of acute hepatitis it occurred in a minor under 8 years of age who is admitted to the Children’s Hospital of the city of Rosario, in Santa Fe; however, the origin of the illness is unknown.
Although childhood cases of acute hepatitis occur in different countries, and its cause is unknown, researchers point out that the diagnosis could be associated with a virus that can cause gastroenteritis or respiratory infection.
As announced by the WHO, the 228 reported pediatric cases are in various countries, mainly in the United Kingdom and the United States, of which 50 are currently under investigation.
Even the Organization warned about the increase in cases and reported that a minor had died and that some 17 liver transplants had been performed for this disease.
It was also known that many of the patients presented symptoms such as: abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, as well as other gastrointestinal problems and elevated enzyme levels.
Meanwhile, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an alert so that doctors who treat these cases, practice a test to detect adenovirus.
This, since adenovirus is a very strong virus that can cause gastrointestinal or respiratory tract infectionswhich in turn could cause acute hepatitis.
What is acute hepatitis and what are the warning signs?
