Actress Brooke Shields reveals rape in documentary presented at Sundance

Park City, United States. Brooke Shields revealed that she was raped when she was a young Hollywood actress in the new documentary “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields,” which premiered Friday at the Sundance film festival.

The former supermodel did not reveal the identity of her attacker, but said she met the man she already knew shortly after graduating college, believing it was a work meeting to discuss her involvement in a new movie.

He took her to his hotel claiming that he would call a taxi for her from her room. Instead, he disappeared into the bathroom before coming back naked and assaulting her, Shields said.

“It was like a wrestling (…) I was afraid that I would drown or something like that”recalls in the documentary.

“I didn’t fight that much. I did not do it. I was totally paralyzed. I thought my only ‘no’ should have been enough. And I just thought ‘stay alive and go‘”.

After the incident, Shields remembers calling his friend and head of security Gavin de Becker on the phone.

“That’s rape”he told her, to which she replied: “I’m not willing to believe that.”

He had not discussed the incident publicly until now.

echoing movement MeToothe reveal is one of several shocking moments in the feature film, which will premiere on streaming platform Hulu in two parts.

The film, which earned Shields a standing ovation at its premiere in Sundancealso chronicles the media’s subsequent obsession with her virginity, her mother’s alcoholism, and her first marriage to tennis star Andre Agassi.

It features several famous friends of Shields, such as Lionel Richie, Laura Linney and Drew Barrymore.

Shields, 57, said that “I felt that it was the right moment in my life” to participate in a documentary, but who never wanted to be isolated.

“The industry I was in prepares you for doors to be closed and I didn’t want to get lost in that. I didn’t want to become that victim.”
