SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- Two Cuban activists protested this Monday, August 12, in the citybirthplace of Fidel Castro’s fatherprior to the visit of a delegation from the regime that intends to pay tribute to the dictator on his birthday.
On the occasion of the 98th anniversary of the birth of Fidel Castro, Avana de la Torre and Ariadna Sierra Herrera They went to the now museum in the Láncara region, Galicia, to carry out a protest action, on the eve of August 13.
Accompanied by a box full of photographs and unfurling a flag for political prisoners, De la Torre entered the house where Ángel Castro was born, the father of Fidel and Raúl, who emigrated to Cuba at the beginning of the 20th century.
Their action preceded the arrival of a delegation from regime Cuban visiting Galicia these days to commemorate the birth of former ruler Castro on August 13.
The Cuban delegation is made up of the ambassador to Spain, Marcelino Medina González; the Cuban consul general in Galicia, Ingrid Izquierdo; the director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Center in Havana, René González Barrios, and the president of the Láncara-Cuba Friendship and Solidarity Association, Antonio Rubén Sobrado.
Officials from the Castro government were received this Monday at the City Hall of Lugo. This Tuesday, coinciding with the dictator’s birthday, they plan to hold an event at the Ángel Castro House Museum in Láncara.
The museum that has been built in the former birthplace of Ángel Castro displays photos and memorabilia of the dictator, panels, books, videos, in order to extol his figure.
With a “Pandora’s Box” full of photos of the luxurious life that the Castros live, the activists denounced the crisis that Cubans are suffering, while the Castro family is getting richer.
The museum was founded in 2022, after the Castro family gave the humble house to the Láncara Friendship and Solidarity Association with Cuba.
The appointment took place on July 28 of that year, on the 30th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s visit to his father’s birthplace.
Ángel Castro was born there in 1875. After fighting as a soldier in the Cuban War of Independence, he returned to the island as an emigrant. There he cut sugar cane and had a farm in Birán (Holguín province), where his children were born and raised.
The current house museum was abandoned but with the visit of Fidel Castro in 1992 the building attracted attention.
