Complaint on social networks
The publication of the Marmolejo user began with a comparison to another recent case in Nuevo León: “Did you seem cruel and inhuman what happened in Santa Catarina with the animal welfare center by Mayor Jesús Nava? For what is happening in the pastor is much worse.”
Marmolejo attributed responsibility to the zoo administrator and its veterinary director. He recorded this in his message: “Here is Joseph Joseph Leautaud Russek, along with Dr. Gustavo Sepúlveda, director of the La Pastora Zoo.”
One of the most serious points of the complaint was the description of the state of the OSA: Marmolejo said he meets open injuries and without proper treatment. According to his publication, “as you see, one of them is dying in life. Full of flies and worms, and with the skin rotting.”
He also denounced the situation of another specimen held in isolation for four years: “They have been locked in a small, dark cage, as if it were a punishment. They have it in a dungeon dungeon.”
The message included a direct claim to the state authorities: “Mr. Governor @samuelgarcia urges us. Please Mariana, you have to see this. You have told you thousands of lies.” Finally, the activist demanded immediate measures: “We demand that these bears be rescued. Animals have no voice, but we do.”
Zoo responds to the complaint
According to the statement released on September 24, the case corresponds to an OSA rescued two years ago by instruction of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa). According to the document, the copy came with serious and irreversible diseases, including bacterial infection, kidney problems, liver and leg injuries.
During this period, the institution claimed to have provided continuous veterinary attention with specialists, medications to control pain, specialized food, adapted facilities and medical monitoring in coordination with Profepa.
The statement indicated: “Every day we work to give it the best possible quality of life within its irreversible condition.” In addition, it was advanced that this September 25 will be held a new evaluation together with Profepa and veterinarians specialists to decide the future of the copy.
The text concluded with a message to the public: “We share their love for animals. We promise total transparency about any decision.”
Recent history in Santa Catarina
Weeks before this complaint, the Environmental Division closed the Animal Welfare Center of Santa Catarina after receiving reports of abuse. During the inspection held on September 13, 79 copies were found with signs of malnutrition and lack of veterinary attention.
The authorities also documented the absence of records, logbooks and files, as well as deficiencies in cleaning areas of stay and protection. Given this, the temporary closing measure was imposed and ordered to prioritize the adoption of the specimens, seeking their well -being.
The Ministry of Environment and the State Environmental Attorney’s Office reported that a complaint will also be filed so that the Prosecutor’s Office specialized in Environmental Crimes continues with the investigation.
This antecedent reinforces the debate on the management and supervision of spaces that house wildlife in Nuevo León.
