Acosta Danza among the groups at the Venice Biennale

The company Acosta Dance and the Colombian artist Andrea Peña will represent Latin America in the Dance section of the Venice Biennale that will begin next July; while the Spanish group El Conde de Torrefiel will do so in the theatrical section, according to a report by efe.

This way, Carlos Acosta will display for the first time in Italy a show by his company Acosta Danza, formed in 2015. The program, of which no further details were yet known, will be divided into four parts and will feature the Venezuelan Javier de Frutos, he points out efe in a report.

Acosta shares the bill with the artist Andrea Pela, a Colombian and Canadian national, who will present Bogota: a work that recalls the notions of death and resurrection through a “post-industrial, queer and Latin American baroque” lens.

These are two of the most outstanding performances of the 17th International Contemporary Dance Festival, which from July 13 to 29 will celebrate a group of dancers from all over the world that the Biennial has dubbed “alchemists of movement” for their “insatiable curiosity.” to explore and experiment.

The dance lineup will also include the “hypnotic” choreographies of Tao Dance Theater, a Chinese company awarded the Silver Lion and a tribute to Simone Forti, a Golden Lion for a career.

For its part, the Catalan company El Conde de Torrefiel will show its stage proposal as one of the groups “that embody the trends of recent years”, which also includes the flamenco FC Bergman, the group of imprisoned actors Compagnia della Fortezza and set designer Armando Punzo, awarded the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement.

Finally, electronic sounds will animate the streets of Venice during the 67th International Festival of Contemporary Music (October 16-29), devoted to “the fascination and expressive richness of digital sound” under the motto “Micro-Music”.

The musical contest’s protagonist will be composer and producer Brian Eno, who will receive the Golden Lion in recognition of his fundamental contributions to the development of digital sound, be it designing the sounds of the first Windows operating systems or his work with David Bowie, U2 and Grace Jones, says the report of efe.

The Venice Biennale presented this Monday at its headquarters in the Cà Giustinian palace the program for the Dance, Music and Theater festivals, a 48-day cultural marathon that will feature 450 international artists and 70 premieres.

The contest, the source points out, will enjoy an increase in endowments and resources, according to its president, Roberto Cicutto, which will allow not only “to show the best of the productions” but also to develop a whole “knowledge and experimentation project”.
