At least 200 fatmacias in Panama City will be inspected by the Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition (Acodeco), through 6 working groups.
In these reviews they will visit different sectors of the metropolitan area such as Bella Vista, Bethania, Pueblo Nuevo, Parque Lefevre, Juan Díaz, Santa Ana, Calidonia, Río Abajo, Villa Lucre, Brisas del Golf, and the north and east sectors.
This is part of the verification actions at the national level, in compliance with Executive Decree No. 17 of August 10, 2022, which reduces the price of 170 medicines by 30%.
Article 1 of the aforementioned decree establishes that the medicinal products that are on the list must be sold with 30% less than the sale price registered in each pharmacy as of June 30, 2022. Likewise, article 2 states that the discounts special by law, will be calculated on the price resulting from the previous application.
In addition, to verify the prices, the number of drugs that pharmacies have for sale will be consulted, out of the total of 170, in order to manage information on the availability of drugs at a private level, for patients who need to buy any medication. .
During this operation, the expiration date, prices on sight, medicines of dubious origin and scanners are also verified (that the advertised price is equal to the price charged at the cash register).
It should be noted that Acodeco is the institution in charge of applying the necessary measures to implement and verify compliance with the reduction of the 170 medicines.
