Acodeco is required to provide a list of 54 companies that do not meet quality parameters

After that the Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition (Acodeco), through its Department of Metrology, verified 56 brands of national milled rice, and only two met the quality parameters, on the morning of this Thursday, August 18, the lawyer Alba Ríos, submitted a request to the entity to give the list with the brands that did not comply.

The lawyer explained that they went to Acodeco to demand the name of the 54 companies that fail to comply with the quality measures so that the citizen knows what they are, since they are committing a crime that carries penalties of 4 to 8 years in prison.

“There is a somewhat strange concealment, a bit complicit on the part of the authorities, the minister of MIDA was even asked and he sent the media and citizens to investigate what the companies are.”

And it is that the results of the Acodeco investigation showed that the 54 brands of rice, which failed to comply with the quality analysis, are 32 special and 22 first class. The only 2 brands that met are premium rice.

According to the technical regulation RT DGNTI-COPANIT 75-2002, which is the current standard, special rice must contain at least 94.5% whole grains, 5% broken grains and 0.5% small rice. The first class rice, 70% whole grains, 25% broken grains and 5% rice. The second, 55% whole grains, 30% broken and 15% rice.

In accordance with what the law dictates, after submitting the request, Acodeco will have a period of 30 days to respond with the list of companies or brands that incurred in the fault.
